COMPUTER AND NETWORK ADMINISTRATION PROGRAM SUCCESS

Ali Ratzel,

AAS in Network Administration, AAS in Network PC Technician, 2013

“I graduated in December and went to work in January as an IT call center technician for the state. We work with 14 consolidated agencies; if someone calls with an IT issue, I’m one of the guys who answers. I highly recommend SFCC; I definitely felt prepared and knew what to do when I started work. My instructors were good, and I enjoyed doing something I liked. With my coursework and internship, I knew I had a good chance to get a job right out of college. Networking isn’t an easy degree, but if you stick with it, it will be rewarding.”

Elementary EDUCATION PROGRAM SUCCESS

Whitney Cunningham,

AA, 2008; BS in Elementary Education, Master’s degree in Educational Technology, UCM

“I’ve lived in Sedalia all my life. SFCC offered the A+ program;  class sizes were smaller, and my professors were always ready to help. I always knew I wanted to teach, but interacting with the kids in my first field experience class got me even more excited. At SFCC, I learned the importance of being understanding because you never know what your students may be going through at home. I taught kindergarten one year, and I’ve taught first grade for four years. I plan to keep moving forward and either get a specialist degree in administration or a focus in reading.”

ADULT EDUCATION AND LITERACY PROGRAM SUCCESS

Billie Schuster,

High School Equivalency (HSE) Certificate, 2014

“I married young and didn’t finish high school. When we moved to this area, I told my husband, ‘It’s never too late!’ I found SFCC’s adult education program online, checked it out and fell in love with the staff. The hours are flexible, which was great; I have four kids, so I could still be involved in all their activities. I started taking free HSE classes last July and got my certificate in October 2014. I’ve always wanted to work in the medical field, so I started taking EMT courses and just passed the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians certification exam. I’ve accomplished a lot in the last year!”

RADIOLOGIC TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM SUCCESS

Air Force Tech.
Sgt. Jarred Ream,

Advanced Placement Radiography Training (APR) online, 2014

Jarred Ream

“I’m a diagnostic radiology technologist at Winn Army Community Hospital at Fort Stewart, Georgia, where I’ve worked for 10 years. I took the APR training course because I wanted to advance my career, be a valuable team member and achieve national registry. SFCC’s online program is excellent. They provided extraordinary help and 24/7 support to help me succeed. It was arduous, but it was important to me to do well. I scored in the highest percentile on the ARRT registry exam and should finish my AAS degree in APR by December. When clinical students at work look at me with admiration and for answers, it’s very satisfying.”

AA TRANSFER PROGRAM SUCCESS

Brieanna Kroeger,

AA, 2012; BS in Biology, 2013, Missouri University of Science and Technology; accepted to University of Missouri-Columbia School of Medicine for July 2015

“I was in the TRiO program at SFCC; I qualified by being a low-income, first-generation college student. The small classes, one-on-one instruction and great resources helped transform me from a small town girl to someone who could easily succeed in upper-level university biology classes. I’m a professional science tutor with TRiO now; I owe a lot of my success to TRiO and SFCC. I’ve wanted to be a pediatrician since third grade, so being accepted to med school is everything I’ve worked for. I want people to realize you can use community college to go anywhere and do anything you want. I’m going to be a doctor!”
