They came, they learned, they graduated.

Last spring, 14 students spent four days a week together for just one semester, and in May they received Skills Certificates in Structural Welding. The fast-track program met from 1-6 p.m. Monday through Thursday for 16 weeks on the Sedalia campus. The instructor was Allen Strange, a Certified Welding Inspector and Certified Welding Educator.

“Welding is a high-demand skill, both on its own and in the manufacturing industry,” says Strange. “The students were motivated to learn in a focused and fast-paced environment.”

The accelerated format for the program was created through State Fair Community College’s participation in MoManufacturingWINs, a federally funded program designed to help Missouri community colleges create innovative manufacturing programs. Students who complete the programs can earn industry-recognized credentials that validate their mastery of skills in specific manufacturing areas.

Another accelerated Structural Welding Skills Certificate program will be offered this fall, along with other manufacturing-related programs.
